A variety of wildlife survive in this harsh Arctic climate and can be seen close up in their natural habitat. These are the Grizzly Bear, Moose, Dall Sheep, Wolf and various smaller mammals like the friendly Arctic Ground Squirrel, Porcupines and more. June is a time for the spectacular Porcupine Caribou herd migration as they make their trek toward the Kongakut River for the Arctic Coastal Plains. The long awaited summer brings the return of a landscape carpeted with wildflowers as the Sheenjek River drainage transforms itself after a long cold winter to a summer that can be anything from hot and dry to cold and rainy.
